The optimist gets just rewards ..... eventually
Paul & Rich spent a good 15-20 mins chuckling on the shore as I drifted
casually towards Cooden from Pevensey Bay using the current conveyor belt
to excellent effect .
Just for a change, perhaps inspired by the sight of Keith & Dan tearing the
fleets apart at Bough Beech yesterday, I opted to dig the formula board out
of the garage along with the 9.8m GTX. As I rigged it I felt certain that
I'd not need it as the wind always fills in when I rig the big guns.
Delay as much as I could, you know, typical windsurfer chat while hoping
for better winds, eventually I gave up waiting and suited up. Initially
wind was too light even for my formula kit, and not helped by an inability
to get my feet in the straps - schoolboy error - so I couldn't pump
energetically while in the straps either.
After around 15-20 mins of 'oh so close but not quite' I hooked into a
lucky gust and planed back upwind to the beach and landed so I could adjust
my straps. Once opened these up I went back out and enjoyed approx 90 mins
of planing up / down and all around the bay, and try as I might I couldn't
get the garmin to show over 19.9 knots vmax
It was a lovely day that with another 5-10 knots of wind would have been
awesome, still, I had a nice time, if a little lonely out there in MY bay
